Frequently Asked Questions

URTH matcha is shade-grown, first harvest, stone-milled, and organic — sourced in small batches from Japan. We honour traditional farming and milling methods to ensure purity, quality, and ritual in every cup.

While ceremonial-grade is largely a Western marketing term, it reflects qualities traditionally held to high standards in Japanese tea ceremonies.

True ceremonial-grade matcha is made from the first harvest of tender, shade-grown leaves, stone-milled into a fine, vibrant powder. It’s known for its smooth, creamy texture, naturally sweet umami flavour, and lack of bitterness.

More than a drink, matcha at this quality becomes a ritual — one rooted in centuries of tradition, intention, and stillness.

To prepare matcha, sift 1-2 teaspoons into a bowl or cup to remove clumps. Add a splash of warm water (70–80°C), then whisk briskly in a “W” motion using a Chasen (bamboo whisk) until frothy.

Top with more water, or enjoy as a latte with your favourite milk and natural sweetener.

Sip slowly — it’s a ritual, not a rush.

Matcha of this quality is labour-intensive and time-honoured — organic, shade-grown, hand-picked, stone-milled, and carefully stored. You’re not just paying for tea — you’re supporting traditional Japanese craftsmanship and mindful wellness.

Japanese Matcha Traditions & History

Matcha has been prepared and shared in Japan for centuries, rooted in tea ceremonies that emphasise presence, care, and intention. More than a drink, it is a practice — one that honours simplicity, respect, and the moment itself.

Traditionally, only the highest-quality leaves were selected for ceremonial use, grown with patience and prepared with precision. From shade-growing to slow stone-milling, every step reflects a deep respect for craftsmanship and quality — values that continue to guide how matcha is made today.
